2024-25 School Year
Dear Students and Parents
My name is Roger Cavener and I am the Principal here at Blue Eye High School. The years seem to fly by quicker now, this is my 31st year in education and 14th as an administrator. I have spent 20 years of my career at Blue Eye Schools, 10 as a teacher/coach and 10 years as an administrator. I look forward to meeting new students and their parents. The students are welcoming, the community close knit, and the teachers truly care for your children. We have an amazing community with great students. If you should have any questions, please do not hesitate to visit the office or call.
All school district enrollment is now online, to complete this log onto your parent portal. You will be receiving an email with directions and the forms needed to complete this task. All new students will also receive an email once they’re registered in the system. Please look for these emails. If you don’t receive an email, please email Janelle Siercks at Email Janelle Siercks. All parents can go to the school webpage and under parent/student portal link and after creating a username and password through the building office will be able to access current grades and attendance.
All High School progress reports, grades, attendance letters, and a daily absence email if your student is absent each day will be emailed unless parents have notified the office of no email or internet capability.
The High School will be handing out and assigning Chromebooks to all high school students again this year during the first week of school. Students will also receive an AMI folder during the first quarter in case the school is closed due to weather. These assignments are mandatory for the missed day not to have to be made up. All work is due the first day school is back in session.
To help with attendance we will incorporate Saturday school to have students make up missed seat time. The state requires 90% of the students to be here 90% of the time and we have fallen below that in the last couple of years. Once a student has missed 6 days or 42 hrs. of seat time, they will be required to make up each hour they go over per semester to participate in any extra-curricular activity, competition, field trip, or school sponsored dance.
Freshman Orientation will be Thursday, August 15th at 6:00pm in the HS Commons.
1st day of school is Monday, August 19th.
I look forward to seeing all our returning students and parents and welcome those new to our district. Please take some time and look over the high school handbook with your child and complete all necessary online forms. The handbook cannot cover all events and circumstances but does give a good overall view of expectations and the discipline policies. The handbook will be accessible on the Blue Eye Schools webpage.
If you have any questions or concerns, please call the office. 417-779-5331
Respectfully,
Roger Cavener Ed.S.
Blue Eye High School Principal
AMI
Parents and Guardians,
The Blue Eye R-V School District is excited to share that the state has granted approval for the District to offer “Alternative Methods of Instruction” or AMI days during the 2024-25 school year. This plan will allow the opportunity for Blue Eye students to engage in meaningful learning on weather days or emergency days when conditions prevent school from being in session. It will be at the District’s discretion whether the school is considered “closed” or if an AMI session will be implemented.
What Does Ami Mean?
AMI simply allows for the continuation of learning when students miss days of regular instruction. Students will have the opportunity for skill reinforcement, remediation, and enrichment through electronic or conventional paper lessons. A few benefits of an AMI day include more instructional time before State testing; assist in eliminating gaps in learning by providing learning activities; and reducing the need for days to be added at the end of the school calendar.
Important Points To Remember For Ami Days:
Students will NOT attend school on an AMI day. All students will have assigned work to be completed at home on these days.
AMI days may count as instructional days and do not have to be made up at the end of the school year if students and staff complete assigned work.
Students who do not complete the work will be marked absent for the related AMI day AND will receive a zero for that assignment.
The District will make an announcement if an AMI day is being used through regular notification systems. (Phone, email, Facebook, etc.)
If school is not in session due to weather or illness, we will communicate if the day will be an AMI day.
Sincerely,
Dr. Butler, Mr. Cavener and Mrs. Porter
